etsy
I just started an online store for us at etsy.com. (I'll put up the zines for sale as soon as I have time to spend with a secure internet connection, and then we will be cracking.) Etsy is a free online marketplace, like ebay, but for handmade things, and people just buy things directly from us, instead of auctioning for them. We can list a quantity of things, like zines, as well as individual things, like merit badges (or record bowls or patches or whatever we make). There's a ton of cool handmade stuff on there if you want to check it out and maybe get some ideas. I'll let you know when it's up! Cheers, sweeties.
ads
Do you guys think we should allow ads on this site? Pro: we get paid for it (but I don't know how much), Con: ads.

Joy in our collective heart
Hey mamas! SO, we (all of us, or one of us) are going to submit an article about Camp Ears to Bust Magazine, along with some photos. Which ones, do ya think? Please also check out Kelsey's excellent photos at http://flickr.com/photos/hortensejones/sets/72157601973567669/ (turns out I'm not html-savvy enough to post em here for your convenience). Also, what should the article say? It's supposed to be 250-350 words long (just under half a page).

Hoodies
The hoodies are ordered, people! Comrade Cypress and Comrade Helen are going to print them over spring break, and they'll be so cool. Through the magic of fundraising they came out to be less than $10 each!! For serious! (Exact amount and where to send it will be forthcoming.) Rock on, superstars!

Merit Badges
We were talking about fundraising, what sorts of things that West coast and East coast people could make- and that we could sell online. One of our fantastic solutions was to make merit badges!!! Here are a few of our excellent ideas:
I wore a thong
Skinny dipping achievement
I did my homework
Peeing outdoors
Built a shelter from leaves/found objects
I won at silent football
I didn't lose at silent football
I lost at silent football, but took it like a champ
I survived gluten-free pancakes
Flag Patrol
I held a secret meeting
One match camp fire award
Swimming buddy
Orienteering
I hiked Mount Everest
Clean up crew
Advanced first aid
Official tent erector
Chore chart champ
Dinner duty specialist
Third degree canoe ace
Most Decorated Camper (collect them all!!!)

oh yeah
If I haven't mentioned it, my plan for the hot months is "camp all summer long." Hence all the ideas for different camps under the umbrella of the mighty Camp Ears.
An Opportunity
I got a suggestion from an Olympia family that there be a little sister day camp with one overnight as well as a little sister overnight camp, for the kids who are not ready for a week of camping. I'm down for planning it and getting there; are there Olympia teens who would be interested in counseloring it? It would probably look like a week in July, M-F, with lots of songs, games and camp stuff and a Thursday overnight. You'd get to have a lot of fun, plus counselor training, and since being a counselor is a job you'd also get paid. Interested parties, drop me a line! xoxoxoxo

Dudes
There's been talk of having a boys' camp, like a brother camp to Camp Ears. I think this is a great idea; if it were at the same time we could have activities together. We'd just need a dude who could run the boys' camp, someone with camp experience, patient and likeable and a good teacher. Maybe he could even play guitar. So, is that something we should work on for next year (2009)? Would we be setting that up for younger boys, the same age as Little Sister Camp girls, or Camp Ears age, or both? Where would we have it? What would it look like? How big would it be?

idea
Hey amigas, check this out. I've been hearing from a lot of people my age, "I wish I could go to your camp." So, new idea: let's have a camp for adults (like people 20+) - run by you guys! Tellmewhatchathink.

Hostelling International
I just found out that one of my all-time favorite organizations, Hostelling International, offers free memberships to nonprofit groups (so awesome). So guess who now has a membership? That's right, US.
Q: But what are we going to do with that?
A: That's for me to know and you to find out! Woohoohoo!
